Imogen’s large brown eyes gazed up at the boy who was lingering above her and she couldn’t help but smile. This still felt like some sort of silly dream that she’d soon wake up from but she was going to enjoy it for as long as it lasted. She watched as he leaned over and grabbed a strawberry from their assortment of foods and she gingerly took it between her teeth as he held it down for her. He extended his hand and she took it, allowing him to pull her up in front of him. Her heart began to race when he wrapped his arm around her waist and she felt his cheek against hers. She looked at the food spread out in front of them and she tried to answer his question but thinking clearly had become more difficult since he’d gotten so close. All of this was happening so fast and she didn’t even know what “this” was. “Um. I made us sandwiches. There’s turky and ham. I like both so take whichever one you want..” She replied, trying to keep her voice from wavering. “I brought some chips too,” she added, her voice trailing off as her thoughts continued to pound away at her mind. “What are we?” She asked without missing much of a beat from listing off what she’d brought for their picnic. “This just…came out of nowhere,” she added, referring to their coupley-ness. “I mean don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t be happier. I just, don’t want to go home confused as to what any of this even means…” She explained and she pulled away from him just a little so that she could look over at him. She placed her arm on top of the one that was resting around her waist and she waited patiently for some sort of response from him on the subject.

Eli noticed Imogen’s tone change, her eyes giving her thoughts away. The words, “What are we?” transmitted the loudest, feeling her face move away from his as her arm rested on top of his. He lifted his eyebrows, letting his eyes scan hers a moment before starting. He blinked heavily, letting a small exhale out through his nose before lifting his momentarily dropped graze to make his green orbs meet her big browns. “..I know it seems out of nowhere, but, I like you, Imogen.” He squeezed her waist softly, emphasizing his words. “I’ve always been attracted to you, it’s just..” A slight pause held his words in his throat, giving him a chance to moisten his lips with his tongue. His eyebrows raised slightly, and he closed his mouth a second, taking in her expression. “..I had to get my head right before I pursued you.. I wanted to do this right.” The admission poured through his lips, feeling completely at ease with her in his arms and his thoughts falling from his lips; there was no fear with Imogen, nothing to hold back. “This.. feels right; effortless..” The words were a quiet confession, slipping from his lips without a conscious thought. “I want to see what this is between us.. I want to spend time with you..” He tilted his head forward, resting his forehead to her temple. “But, I don’t want to rush you…” A small exhale expelled from his nose, a lingering blink covering his eyes a moment before he spoke again. His heart was beating heavily against his ribcage as his jaw clenched at his words. The intensity he knew he was capable still scared him, even though he had it mostly in check. His emotions had always ruled him, and even now that he was aware of his disorder, he still had his moments where he wondered what most people considered intense. Studying her face, his eyes slowly moved to take in her expression, trying to read what she was thinking. For the first time all day, he felt a slight wash of nervousness pour into his body, moving through quickly as the comfort set back in as soon as their eyes met. Not breaking their eye contact, he let his fingers on her waist lift up to play lightly with hers that were resting over his.

Imogen’s big brown eyes gazed at him until his green ones rose up to meet hers. She listened intently to his explanation and nodded here and there to let him know that she was listening. Given their past she knew that trusting him on this should be an ordeal and that she shouldn’t do it so easily but her heart was still very much attached to him therefore she didn’t pay attention to what her brain was yelling. “He trampled on that heart of yours before! He’ll do it again!” She brushed away everything inside of her that was telling her to run in the opposite direction and she shook her head lightly. “You’re not rushing me,” she assured him. She had him now and she was going to do whatever she had to to keep him. “I’m just, still getting used to it that’s all,” she explained and she laced their fingers together and gave his hand a small squeeze. After a few moments she let go of his hand and she moved away from him for a second to take the camera off from around her neck. She leaned back in against his chest and held the camera out. “First picture of the day? The happy new couple,” she said with a grin and she looked up at him? “Ready?” She asked and before he had much time to give an answer she leaned in and captured his lips with hers while she simultaneously snapped the picture. She pulled away and giggled. “Sorry. I couldn’t help it,” she added coyly and flashed him a small grin.

School. Blech.

Imogen heard him speak and she began to open her eyes and look up at him but as soon as they were open she saw him leaning down. Suddenly, his lips were on hers and she let out a soft breath through her nose that she’d drawn in when she saw him leaning down. Her eyes began to flutter shut but no sooner had she closed them he withdrew his lips from hers, leaving hers still slightly parted and begging for another. She didn’t have much time to process the fact that Eli had kissed her before he was handing her a beautiful pink wildflower. A small, awestruck smile slipped across her face and a pink blush dusted across her cheeks. The Elijah Goldsworthy had just kissed her on his own accord, without some play rehearsal or manipulation; but because he’d actually wanted to. She saw a very faint blush cross his own cheeks and she smiled, feeling her heart soar at the fact that the kiss had initiated that. Her smile had grown, revealing her pearly white teeth, and she stared up into his emerald green hues. “Well..” She began, her voice almost sing-song. “That was unexpected, Eli Goldsworthy,” she said, a smile still present on her face and evident in her voice. “Kudos for that little twist in the storyline there,” she added, joking around with him playfully. “I definitely didn’t see it coming,” she finally concluded her joke and a gentle smile continued to play on her soft features. “Now this.. This is going to be cliche,” she said and uncurled one of her arms from behind her head so that she could reach up and place her palm against his warm face. She lightly pressed against his face to pull him back down toward her and she pressed her lips to his again. Now that she was aware of what was going on she wanted to be able to really relish in the fact that Eli was kissing her and he actually wanted to be. A small smile formed on her lips into the kiss and she finally pulled back and let her head fall back down against the blanket they were on. She clutched her wildflower in her hand and she smiled up at him. “I could go home right now and be perfectly happy with how the day turned out,” she said honestly and continued to smile.

Eli watched a blush coat her cheeks, his lips curling into a smile at the realization. His eyes stayed on hers, scanning them as she spoke. Her hand moved to rest on his face, urging him to lean back down, letting their lips press together again. His hand rested flat on the ground next to her, holding his weight as he hovered over her. Their lips danced a few moments, causing his heart to swell as she pulled away. Her words graced his ear drums, provoking his lips to pull further into a smile over his face. “I could go home right now and be perfectly happy with how the day turned out.” Her lips were mirroring his, his eyes flickering from hers to the small wildflower between her fingers, then back again. “The day is far from over, Imogen.” He lifted his eyebrows once, letting his smirk fully reveal itself as his hand lifted up to graze her face softly. Turning his head, he reached over to the fresh strawberries in the small Tupperware container, picking one up between his fingers. He moved his hand back, and held it over her lips, watching her as he fed the fruit to her. “..After we eat a bit, perhaps we should take a walk. You know, look for picture worthy shots. What do you say?” He motioned to her camera laid next to the basket, his eyelids sliding halfway over his eyes as he watched her. He sat up slightly, holding out his hand to pull her up. Moving to sit behind her, he leaned his chin over her shoulder, letting his cheek rest next to hers. His free arm encircled her, resting loosely around her waist as his other still held up his waist. “So, what do we have here?” Eli’s voice was soft, the smile never fully disappearing as he took in the soft scent of the girl in front of him. After she made it clear that the kiss was welcomed, it eased his mind completely. He didn’t overthink the small gestures or worry that they would be too much; he let himself relax, and just be with her in the moment.
